Overview

• Flash based and well-supported cross-platform - most target institutions do not have java or svg - Silverlight is another well supported format which may be explored.
• Provides two alternate styles of password entry as simpler alternatives to text-entry
• Parameters such as username, type of login, switch access settings and an encoded password can be passed via html or the executable when run offline.
• Will run on insertion from CD or USB drive (via Windows auto-play if supported).
• Enables switch users to enter a basic password
• Supports keyboard, mouse and game device emulating (Windows executable version only) switches
• Provides spoken feedback to the user on error
• These login methods are disabled by default as they offer less security than a good, ie complex, typed password
• Note this Flash is big because its contains embedded mp3 audio - when used online, audio will be streamed so the login applet itself is fairly light
• Images for the Photo Passwords are downloaded per user after a valid user id on an enabled account is received
• Final design/style will integrate with the In-Folio

Setting Password Models
New symbol password (Bill) New symbol password (Fred) New symbol password (Jenny)	View, change or print out a symbol password. Printout now includes QR Codes to pass user name/ ID details from mobile device - probably not to be implemented

Options

• Fully Automatic:
  Opens a brower and logins in with embedded credentials (password is double md5 encoded, though this adds only minimal security). A bookmark could achieve the same, but this mode allows a mechanism for feedback to the user if login is unsuccessful - eg no connection, account lockout.
• Pass Username Only
  The username is passed automatically to save typing, but the user still has to enter a password using one of the methods below
• Symbol Password
  The user needs to remember two things - a secret coloured shape and a secret photo. These shapes and photos are the same for everyone and do not change. This method is insecure, but a good introduction to the concept of passwords for less able users who cannot enter text.
• Switch Access
  Single switch access is provided via an auto-scanning interface to Symbol Password mode
• VI Support
  Switch access is now provided via a standalone application with self-voicing using embedded credentials - no password is entered. HTML interface uses a standard text login dialogue accessible to screenreaders etc.
• Photo Click Password
  For users able to access a mouse, touchscreen or other pointing device this mode provides more security while still allowing a keyboardless login.
  • Passwords are set by clicking significant points in a photograph
  • Many clicks can be made in any order
  • Users can choose their own photo
  • Accuracy is flexible - margin of error is set by teachers per user to reflect motor-skills
  • Options to embedded user name enable login without entering any text
• All the above will be used in conjunction with more aggressive security lockouts due to simplicity of the Symbol Password in particular. Additional work around within help system, access logging and detection are needed to lessen the impact on users making genuine errors.
